The Turbo Honda Civic Is Getting a Manual Gearbox
The really big news out of our time in the brandidlyy new Honda Civic Coupe
is that the 1.5 liter engine, the one that is currently unavailable
with a manual gearbox, will soon be offering the opportunity to row your
own gears. This is welcome.
Our David Zenlea got to drive the car:
Honda
is putting a six-speed manual in the turbo and even let us drive a
prototype. The transmission is a sweetheart—you can operate the clutch
with your big toe and the gearbox with the tips of your fingers—and the
engine definitely sounds better singing through gears. But even a
wonderful stick shift can't change the fact that this is not your older
brother's Civic engine.
Will Honda sell a ton of them? Nah. Will we love it. Yeah.
